Narrowest House in NYC

Manhattan (NYC), New York This house is so famous that it has its own Wikipedia page, and tour groups stop to photograph it.
Address: 75 1/2 Bedford St, Manhattan, NYC Coordinates:40.73140, -74.00495 Subway: Christopher St-Stonewall (Line 1) Hidden Landmarks of New York

This is the narrowest apartment in all of New York City, measuring just 2.65 meters wide, and is currently on the market for 5 million dollars. That’s right, 5 million dollars gets you the thinnest three-story townhouse in New York City, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, less than 1,000 square feet of living space, and a large slice of New York City history.

This house is so famous it has its own Wikipedia page. You can even spot walking tours stopping across the street to photograph this curious house.

According to the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, this three-story Dutch-gabled house was built in 1873 on what was the former carriage entryway for the adjacent property, hence its fractional address (75 ½).

The house was wedged into the path between numbers 75 and 77 to maximize housing in the booming neighborhood at the time.

In 1923, the house was leased by artists who used it to house actors working at the nearby historic Cherry Lane Theater. Some of the most famous residents have been Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, William Steig, the illustrator of Shrek, and actors Cary Grant and John Barrymore.

It’s this slice of New York City history that drives up the asking price of the house, which is around 5 million dollars.
